Due to structural changes and growth within the Air Wing Division of WA Police, new opportunities for employment have been created.
This shift work position operates on a rotational roster basis and includes night, day, afternoon, weekends and public holiday shifts.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of all rotary wing aircraft operated by the Police Air Wing by piloting the aircraft in accordance with the Civil Aviation Regulations, the Civil Aviation Orders and Western Australian Police Air Wing Operations Manual.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITE

It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they have been granted Australian Citizenship prior to the completion of the selection process.

It is a requirement of the position that applicants undertake a psychological assessment to determine their suitability for this position.

Incumbent will be regularly examined for pilot and safety competence in accordance with the Check and Training Manual. Failure to maintain these competencies may result in termination of employment.

Possession of an Australian Air Transport Pilot License (helicopter).

Current Night VFR Rating.
-
Current Australian Class 1 Aviation Medical.

Essential:

Completed at least 3 Command Instrument Rating Proficiency Checks (IPC).

2000 hours total helicopter experience of which 1000 hours must be Pilot in Command (PIC) and 500 hours must be as PIC of a twin engine helicopter.

Proficient knowledge of the Australian Civil Aviation Regulations and Orders.

Written and verbal communication skills.

Interpersonal skills.
Desirable:

Possession of a BK117 and/or AS365 type rating.

Possesses a Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) rating.

Possesses a Winching/Rappelling endorsement.
-
Possesses a Low-Level (LL) rating.
Applicants are also required to submit a Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills and experience and qualifications relevant to the Accountabilities/Duties of the attached Position Description Form.
The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements.

OTHER CONDITIONS
Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies at Police Air Wing. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, then the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial date of the appointment.
Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for this position is not a current WA Police employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to this position may be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
