Conditions
There are two full time, fixed term vacancies, for a period of 24 months, with a possibility of extension. There will also be a Pool running for a period of 18 months from the initial appointment. Applicants deemed suitable will be placed into a pool from which full-time, part-time fixed term appointments may be made.
You must have a degree in Materials Conservation to be considered for this position. All overseas qualifications must have been assessed for Australian equivalency.
Location
This position will be split between historic Fremantle, close to the bustling cafe strip, tourist sights and the modern new Maritime Museum and the Museum’s Research and Collections facility at 49 Kew Street, Welshpool.
Job Description
The conservators are responsible for preventative and remedial conservation programs, object documentation, the preparation of collection material for loans and exhibitions and ongoing improvements to collection storage systems. As a conservator on the new museum team, you will combine a “can do” attitude with the flexibility to tackle a wide variety of objects from across our natural and cultural collections. While we seek applicants with a broad range of conservation related skills and knowledge, applicants with experience in pest management and in the treatment of paper, textile, and/or natural history objects would be particularly well regarded.
