We are seeking to fill 10 newly created Development Officer positions within the Grains Research and Development Transformation directorate. In partnership with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program, DAFWA will deliver a new industry priority project ‘Building crop protection and crop production agronomy capacity in Western Australia’.
Crop agronomy and crop protection are core areas of technical competence supporting development of the WA grains industry. Commitment to these core areas will ensure the industry has access to capacity in the future; therefore the work to be carried out by these key positions is a priority for the agrifood industry going forward.
Five of these positions will focus on crop protection. In these roles you will help find regionally specific solutions and reduce impacts from major disease, pests and weed issues challenging Western Australian grain growers. You will implement and monitor local adoption and extension activities relating to crop protection in partnership with local growers, grower groups and industry.
Five of these positions will focus on crop production agronomy. In these roles you will focus on regionally specific agronomic issues in the farming systems, including soil productivity, crop nutrition and new technologies. You will implement and monitor local adoption and extension activities in partnership with local growers, grower groups and industry.
All 10 positions will work closely with GRDC Regional Cropping Solutions Networks, industry and growers to identify locally relevant research, development and extension activities, including field trials, focus paddocks, extension events and communications in response to priority issues. The officers will also develop strong networks with industry, growers and national and regional research projects.
This project will provide a structured skills development program for successful applicants.

Level Ranges: These roles will suit professionals, with or without experience. The level of appointment upon commencement will depend on qualifications, skills and/or experience.
Specified Calling Level 1 $63,576 - $87,166 pa (Professional level with or without experience)
Specified Calling Level 2 $89,315 - $98,711 pa (Experienced professional level)
Specified Calling Level 3 $103,935 - $115,092 pa (Broadly recognised professional level)
Specified Calling Level 4 $118,912 - $127,450 pa (Nationally recognised professional level)
Tenure: These are fixed term opportunities available until 30 June 2020. Consideration may then be given to offering a further term(s) or permanent appointment, subject to conditions.
Location: These positions will be located across the following regional locations: Merredin, Geraldton, Northam, Esperance, Albany and Katanning.
