This is a pool recruitment process (Ref 00178). This pool will run for a period of 12 months. This process may be used to fill ongoing fixed term contracts, secondments, acting/relieving and permanent opportunities (full and part time).
This shift work position operates on a rotational roster basis and includes night, day, afternoon, weekends and public holiday shifts.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of all rotary wing aircraft operated by the Police Air Wing by piloting the aircraft in accordance with the Civil Aviation Regulations, the Civil Aviation Orders and Western Australian Police Air Wing Operations Manual.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITE
It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they have been granted Australian Citizenship prior to the completion of the selection process.
Possession of an Australian Air Transport Pilot Licence (helicopter).
Holder of a Night VFR rating.
Holder of a current Australian Aviation Medical (Class 1).

ESSENTIAL
1. Completed at least 3 Command Instrument Rating (CIR) renewals.
2. 2000 hours total helicopter experience of which 1000 hours must be Pilot in Command (PIC) and 500 hours must be as PIC of a twin engine helicopter.
3. Proficient knowledge of the Australian Civil Aviation Regulations and Orders.
4. Written and verbal communication skills.
5. Interpersonal skills.
DESIRABLE
6. Possession of a BK117 and/or AS365 type rating.
7. Possesses a Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) rating.
8. Possesses a Winching/Rappelling endorsement.
9. Possesses a Low-Level (LL) rating.
Applicants are also required to submit a Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills and experience and qualifications relevant to the Accountabilities/Duties of attached Position Description Form.
The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements.
Please note: For applicants deemed suitable, all Essential Work Related Requirements listed in the Position Description Form will be assessed at some stage during the selection process.
OTHER CONDITIONS
A POOL is being created at the Police Air Wing to fill future vacancies that may arise. This POOL will remain active for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial appointment. Applicants who are assessed as ‘suitable’ at the completion of this process, will be placed in the POOL and may be considered for future permanent and temporary vacancies as they become available.
Once an applicant within the POOL accepts a permanent vacancy offer within the Police Air Wing, that applicant will be removed from the POOL. Applicants who accept a temporary vacancy will remain in the POOL.
Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicants for these positions are not current WA Police employees. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
