This vacancy is positioned within the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (Office). The Office is a sub-department and the employing authority is the Department of Finance.
The objective of the Office is to collaborate with Government Agencies to stabilise cost, increase value-for-money and minimise risk in the delivery of Information Communications Technology (ICT) across the Western Australian Government by;
- leading, influencing and advising on the governance of ICT projects and implementations;
- establishing and driving a whole-of-government ICT strategy, policy and reform agenda;
- identifying and advising on ICT innovations which will support and enhance government services to meet business and community needs;
- promoting ICT standardised approaches across government; and
- implementing frameworks that improve public sector capability and capacity.
A fixed-term contract up to 30 June 2018 is available for immediate filling, with the possibility of extension.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented executive to lead ICT reform across the Western Australian public sector, as part of the State Government’s holistic ICT approach.
The Government Chief Information Officer is a newly established role that reports directly to the Minister for Finance. The role will also be the Chief Executive of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, will lead and influence effective ICT investment across the sector, Chair the Directors General ICT Steering Committee, be responsible for managing the governments $25 million ICT Renewal and Reform Fund and developing an ICT reform plan to support the Government’s new direction.
As a Chief Executive, you will demonstrate the ability to lead members of the Office in the provision of advice to the Minister, establish partnerships with public sector leaders and interpret, influence and communicate the Office’s reforms and initiatives. This will entail the planning and delivery of all activities that align with the strategic objectives, including the implementation of the ICT reform agenda across the sector.
You will have significant expertise within the ICT industry and have the ability to successfully lead change in agencies’ ICT investment culture. You will also possess a proven track record in achieving significant outcomes in a highly complex ICT environment and bring a strong focus on stakeholder management.

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Management or Information Technology or equivalent; and

Pre-Employment Requirements
- ‘Australian Permanent Residency’ status is a minimum requirement for permanent appointment to the WA Public Sector. However, for appointment on a fixed term contract or casual basis, applicants only require a valid Work Visa for the duration of the entire advertised term.
