We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant – Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Brookman Primary School (PS) is located 12 kilometres from Perth in the southern suburb of Langford. The community from which Brookman draws its students has an exciting and diverse cultural mix with at least one third of students having English as a second language. Brookman PS staff are a highly dedicated and professional group who have the needs and welfare of students at heart.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will under teacher direction, be responsible for implementing individual or small group programs to assist students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills. This may include the operation of computers and digital technologies. Within this role you would provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education

To be suitable for this role you will ideally be organised and able to develop and implement individual interventions to meet student needs. Suitable applicants will ideally have extensive knowledge in trauma informed practices and also high-level behaviour management skills. An understanding of functional behaviour analysis and use of reinforcers would be beneficial. The role entails working with students with high social and emotional needs in a variety of contexts, who can require a high level of support when dysregulated. To be suitable in the role, applicants will ideally possess the skills to engage students requiring additional behaviour supports in with a range of strategies.

    4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
    5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
    6. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
