This is a ten (10) month fixed term, full-time position commencing June 2026 with possible extension.
The System Performance Branch plays a central role in supporting evidence-based decision-making across the education sector. It is responsible for coordinating system-level reporting, including the production of the Annual Report, and for collecting and maintaining statistics on schools and students.
The branch produces performance indicators that inform strategic planning, management, and reporting, and provides advice and support on the use of performance and statistical information for resource allocation. It also advises internal and external stakeholders on the appropriate use of system-level performance data and contributes to national accountability and reporting frameworks through representation on statistical bodies and working groups. Additionally, the branch coordinates the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) for Western Australian schools and supports research and evaluation activities, including administering the Department’s Research Conducted on Department of Education Sites by External Parties policy.
The Role
In this role, you will provide information and guidance to researchers, schools and agencies on research policy and application requirements. You will play a key role in assessing applications, ensuring they meet policy, legal, logistical and ethical standards relevant to the school education sector.
Your responsibilities will include liaising with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues, preparing formal written advice for executive consideration, and overseeing accurate record keeping throughout the application process. You will also be responsible for monitoring research progress, ensuring findings are received and shared appropriately, and refining internal systems to improve the tracking and management of research projects. - Demonstrated good oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively consult, negotiate and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated good written communication skills, including the ability to prepare high quality, professional email and letter correspondence to internal and external clients and prepare briefings for senior management outlining benefits, issues and risks and recommending a course of action.
- Demonstrated good computer skills, including an understanding of statistical analysis software and experience in maintaining spreadsheets, databases and formal records.
