This is a 36 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025
Located in the Central Kimberley Region between Broome and Kununurra, most students come from the town of Halls Creek and the communities of Mardiwa Loop and Nicholson Block. Students also commute from several family communities within the Halls Creek area, such as Koongie Park Station (20 km) and Lamboo Station (40 km).

Halls Creek DHS has an enrolment of approximately 320 students across the Kindergarten to Year 12 campus, with a 98% Aboriginal enrolment. Located in the beautiful East Kimberley Region, we are part of the Kimberley Schools Project, and are committed to attracting, recruiting, and coaching teachers to master explicit teaching pedagogy.
The Location and Community
Schools in the Remote Teaching Service are located in some of the most isolated parts of the state. They may be in community settings or small towns, and the majority of students are from local Aboriginal families. They deliver flexible and innovative education programs to ensure students in remote areas have access to high quality learning programs.

The Role
The successful applicant will ideally show the professional knowledge, practices, and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school Home Economics curriculum. As part of this role, you will engage and build productive working relationships with students and be involved collaboratively with your colleagues.
Additionally, you will ideally provide excellence in creating and maintaining supportive and safe learning environment and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential. Recent experience teaching across a range of Home Economics subject areas, and the ability to delivery Certificate courses or available to be upskilled will be highly regarded.
With effective interpersonal skills, you will work closely with students, colleagues and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students. Ideally, you will challenge conventional practices to provide successful outcomes for students, and continually reflect on their own practices to enhance performance. The ability to adapt with and utilise technology within the Home Economics learning area would be highly regarded.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Halls Creek District high School in 2025 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $3 500 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
