Governor Stirling Senior High School (GSSHS) is seeking an enthusiastic, engaging and highly competent teacher to join our Aboriginal Education team.
Situated on the Derbarl Yerrigan in Woodbridge, GSSHS was re-opened in 2013 with a dedicated centre (the Maali Centre) for the support of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families. The school also offers the Department of Education Gifted and Talented program, a range of academic and vocational education programs, and approved specialist programs in Engineering, Arts Media and AFL Football. The Role
The successful applicant should have the skills and ability to work collaboratively with the Maali team and teaching staff to improve the educational outcomes of our Aboriginal students. They should have broad and up-to-date knowledge of best practice in working with Indigenous students and families, and high levels of motivation and commitment. They will provide support to our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO) and DSG staff in providing opportunities for our Aboriginal students to celebrate their cultural identity. The role includes being a key part of the school drive to embed Aboriginal cultural responsiveness in our curriculum, both in terms of content and pedagogy. The successful applicant should have the skills and knowledge to contribute to the case management of Aboriginal students with low attendance and gaps in their learning. Engaging with our Aboriginal parents and families will be a critical part of the role.

- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.

- consent to and obtain a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit.
