Cocos Islands District High School (DHS) operates as a Kindergarten to Year 10 (K-10) school, split across two campuses, West Island and Home Island. The Role
Our Primary School team values commitment, flexibility, and adaptability, as teachers may work across either campus or in various class settings. Class structures include Multiple Age Group (MAG) classes (e.g. K-2, 3-6), split classes, and single-stream classes, with a large cohort of students from an English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) background.
We seek exceptional educators with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, dedicated to helping students achieve excellent educational outcomes. Ideal candidates should be passionate, motivated, team-oriented, and capable of working collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the broader school community.
The successful applicants will ideally be committed to improving outcomes for every student, every day, using our whole-school approaches grounded in evidence-based instructional strategies. The ability to model and maintain high expectations in line with our school vision and adhere to our instructional model and research-supported methods will be well regarded.
Applicants should be proficient in current and effective teaching practices aligned with the school’s strategic goals. They should be capable of planning engaging programs with a deep understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum. Knowledge of Explicit Instruction, High Impact Teaching Strategies, Walker Learning, Sounds-Write Synthetic Phonics, Spelling Mastery, Talk for Writing, and teaching students of EAL/D backgrounds (using the EAL/D progress map), the Science of Reading approach, and Oxford Maths is highly desirable. We are looking for candidates who can effectively use data-informed practices to differentiate instruction, leading to high achievement and progress for all students.
For ECE teachers, promoting the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards is key. ECE teachers should recognise the importance of fostering opportunities for children to interact and build trusting relationships. Programs should balance planned, purposeful play with explicit teaching of essential foundational skills and concepts.
