We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Yangebup Primary School (PS) opened in 1982 and is in the southern suburbs, catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Yangebup PS has a very strong sense of community, where relationships between staff, parents and community are based on respect and trust.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you should ideally collaborate with teachers, using available resources, to support educational programs and create an inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environment for all. Candidates should demonstrate initiative and be equipped with diverse skills and strategies to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Experience in managing challenging behaviour is an advantage.

We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate enhanced student learning through reflective practice and ongoing professional development. In this role, you ideally will assist teachers in delivering planned educational programs and will ideally help implement individualized or small group learning plans.

    2. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
    3. Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
    4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
    5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
    6. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
