The Role
We are looking for highly competent and ideally experienced Education Assistants with a passion for working with students with special needs. The priorities and goals of this position are to assist students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, physical, and social skills. The suitable applicants should be innovative, team players and have well developed behaviour management skills, particularly in dealing with challenging and complex behaviour.
The ability to be flexible, exercise initiative and work as part of a team will be highly advantageous. The suitable applicants should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can collaborate with teachers to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. The suitable applicants should also have a strong knowledge of a range of evidence-based techniques for learning and behaviour and ideally have some experience or knowledge of disabilities within a mainstream context.
You should work either under general supervision or autonomously and contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with school community members to support student achievement. We are seeking applicants who are committed to enhancing students’ learning opportunities using their understanding of differentiation, intervention, and engagement strategies to assist students in accessing the curriculum.
In the role of an Education Assistant – Special Needs, you should be highly engaged in the development of student independence through planned and explicit approaches to support their self-management and self-regulation skills. This includes involvement in the development, monitoring and review of student programs and plans. Suitable applicants should display respect, kindness, and teamwork always. They should also have high expectations for all students and be committed to whole school approaches.

- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
