The Role
Mosman Park (PS) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Music Teacher to join our friendly and collaborative team.
The successful applicant would have the ability to sing across a range of styles and genres and have proven experience in composing original music, with the ability to create pieces that align with the specific needs of performances or educational programs, proficient in playing the piano with ability to accompany vocal performances, lead rehearsals, and teach students for public performances such as the Massed Choir, experience in creating original choreography that complements musical performances, considering the skill level of the performers.
The ability to sign using Ausaln as part of educational program would be highly desirable.
The successful applicant should possess a strong knowledge of the curriculum and effective teaching approaches across the Music and Physical Education (PE) curriculum. They should be student focused and have strong interpersonal skills while working collaboratively in a Specialist Team. Applicants that possess the ability to teach PE especially in the areas of netball, swimming and athletics would be highly regarded.
We currently have a Performing Arts specialist (0.4FTE) who has established a long and vibrant history of music making and performance across the school therefore the successful applicant would be required to work collaboratively with this teacher and program. You would have strong evidence based developmental well sequenced music pedagogy and be able to prepare our School Choir for performances such as the Massed Choir and the WAGSMS (WA Government Schools Music Society) concerts. You should also have a sound understanding of the WA Physical Education curriculum and be able to support classes during the year.
The school has an ambitious and nationally recognised Reconciliation Action Plan which would need to continue to permeate the music program. The ability to run a choir, support staff with their assembly items, teach and lead the singing of the National Anthem and school song (the latter in both English and Noongar).
As we are co-sited with the Mosman Park School for Deaf Children, a willingness to work with this school and learn the school song and National Anthem in Auslan is highly important.
The Instrumental Music School Service program operates in our school from Years 5-6 with specialist guitar and brass offered. This teacher will be required to coordinate testing and placement for this program. Our Music Department is well resourced with a range of xylophones, ukuleles, drums and keyboards. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to further develop the program and resources. There is currently a dedicated PE teacher however there will be a requirement for the Music/PE teacher to support the PE teacher with training as well as assisting carnivals throughout the year; specifically, swimming, netball and athletics carnivals.
