The Role
Ocean Reef SHS is seeking a Head of Learning Area (HOLA) – Health & Physical Education (HPE) who will have the capacity to provide educational leadership across the HPE learning area and broader school community. This will include our highly successful school-based Soccer program and our emerging Basketball program.
As a member of the School Leadership Team the successful applicant should possess the skills to translate the priorities of the school’s Business Plan including our vision and values into learning area operational planning that is improvement focused, responsive to student achievement and engagement trends and proactive in contributing the school’s positive behaviour and wellbeing culture.
They will display an ability to lead the delivery of the HPE curriculum and develop the professional practice of the HPE team to ensure successful student outcomes. Strategic leadership to ensure value-adding, innovative curriculum pathways that offer diverse opportunities for students to develop the capabilities to succeed within and beyond school is a priority.
The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of and commitment to leading the implementation of research-based high impact teaching practices that align with the school’s pedagogical framework. Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop the professional capacity of HPE team members through effective performance development are key attributes of the role.
The HPE HOLA will possess highly effective organisational and event management skills that extend to demonstrated application of relevant duty of care requirements. They will have a detailed knowledge of the Year 7 -10 Western Australian HPE curricula, Outdoor Education and Senior School course offerings. Experience teaching or leading others in the delivery of ATAR pathway and VET courses will be highly regarded. It is expected that they will be an expert classroom practitioner and have the capacity to build a culture of excellence in their Learning Area that supports the needs of all students.
