Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a dedicated First Aid Officer to our Student Services team.
The First Aid Officer is the primary contact for the management and administration of First Aid in the college. The successful applicant should contribute to the welfare of students and staff by providing first aid as needed and within their level of training, experience, the Department’s provisions on first aid in the workplace, and the relevant Occupational Safety and Health Legislation.
This role has the successful applicant supervise students with self-administration of prescribed medication as documented, as well as coordinate with parents/carers to collect sick or injured students and remain with students until their parent/carer arrives. Suitable applicants will report injuries to the Principal, maintain a record of all injuries and illnesses where first aid has been provided, update and maintain student medical plans as required, and act as a central point for communication and coordination between first aiders. The position will be based in our lower school Student Services Centre but will service all students.
Located in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities. Each year we will add an additional cohort, until we reach our full complement of Year 7 to Year 12 in 2025.
Stage 1 buildings include administration, lower school student services, library, gymnasium, staff fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, technologies, general classrooms, specialist science laboratories, and nature play area. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2 (being rolled out in 2024) includes a performing arts centre, dance studio, media studio, music studio, lecture theatre, additional senior School tudent Services, and two double storey blocks of general classrooms.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Relevant knowledge and expertise in First Aid and associated qualifications.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels and in emergency situations.
- Experience in effective record management, activity recording and ability to use a range of software applications.
- Sound organisational skills to develop effective administrative practices with the ability to work independently and to seek support when required and implement recommendations.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- hold a current certificate in Occupational First Aid (HLTSS00068).
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
