Bannister Creek Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Level 1 School Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.

Bannister Creek PS is seeking to hire a capable, friendly, and enthusiastic School Officer to join their team. As the primary point of contact for staff, students, and visitors, you should be confident, friendly, positive, and organised. Given that many of our families come from non-English language backgrounds, school officers will collaborate with the Leadership Team to establish culturally responsive processes and procedures.
The suitable applicants will be part of a busy school office team and should be an efficient and enthusiastic team member, capable of working collaboratively or independently with minimal supervision. Additionally, they should be able to adapt to different tasks and remain calm under pressure.
The School Officer will handle various administrative duties including managing inquiries, student enrolments, maintaining student records, and working on school newsletters, website, and Facebook page. Therefore, proficiency in word processing and experience with desktop publishing and design programs such as Canva and Sway is highly desirable. School Officers collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services, administrative staff, and the wider school community to support and manage the school's financial and physical resources. This includes supporting financial processes, recording assets and resources, human resources support, and administrative functions related to buildings and grounds. Additionally, the School Officer will assist other school staff with administrative support as needed. A positive approach to the role and eagerness to learn new skills and contribute to the efficient running of the school office is ideal.
Bannister Creek PS, located 14km southeast of Perth, caters for approximately 584 children from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our state-of-the-art school has 18 classrooms, 5 early childhood classrooms, a contemporary library resource centre, an art/science specialist room, music room and a fully enclosed sports undercover area will ensure that we are able to meet the challenges of education in the 21st century.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Experience in providing general office administrative support with ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
