Appointment Pool
Duncraig Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs - Lead (EASNL) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.

As EASNL you will ideally possess strong teamwork, communication, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and interpersonal skills in a recent and relevant educational environment. Suitable applicants should assist in the performance development of Education Assistant (EA) staff including; organising classroom observations and providing feedback to the Learning Support Manager (LSM), assisting with completion and submission of Individual Disability Allocation (IDA) funding applications and supporting the implementation of specialised education interventions programs. Applicants with knowledge of therapy processes and Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD), including the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school level will be highly regarded. Ideal applicants would mentor, coach and model good practices for other EA staff and be in a classroom if required. Experience as an EA is preferred but not essential. You will ideally be organised and a creative thinker.
As EASNL, you collaborate with the LSM to plan and deliver the worksite induction and training of other EA staff. Part of this role is daily responsibility for ensuring relief staff are aware of their role and responsibilities. Collaboration with the LSM to create, update and effectively implement EA timetables is an important part of this role. The EASNL will play a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of our students by contributing to the design and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and provide solutions and support to teachers and EA staff, which promote improved educational outcomes.
Suitable Applicants may be required to perform tasks which require discretion in problem solving, decision making and choosing methods and processes to achieve outcomes. It would be highly desirable for you to have experience in dealing with students with a range of learning needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), trauma informed practice and severe mental health diagnoses. The ability to be constantly student-focussed and remain calm in high pressure or emergency situations is desirable.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of education programs and/or behaviour management plans; and ability to identify problems and assist teachers and other Education Assistants in the development of strategies and solutions.
- Well developed oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, mentor, coach, induct and train other Education Assistants and professional teams, including providing advice and evaluating education programs.
- Well developed written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school community level in a meaningful way.
- Well developed organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate staff rosters and relief to assist in the delivery of effective education programs.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
