Appointment Pool
Balcatta Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Attendance Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.
Attendance Officers work collaboratively with Student Services staff and school community to identify and monitor student absenteeism and process attendance data. They are the first point of contact for parents and students regarding attendance matters which may likely include the following:
- Responding to absence related enquiries.
- Entering attendance related data in a timely manner to meet upload deadlines.
- Reviewing and updating student attendance records.
- Providing clerical support to develop and implement strategies which support student engagement.
Develop and implement a range of preventative strategies at the school level to engage and support non-attending students.
Previous experience using COMPASS, Student Information System (SIS) or similar databases for maintaining student records would be highly desirable.
Suitable applicants should be customer focused with strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. They will ideally be reliable, self-motivated, and able to meet deadlines in a busy environment. In addition, they should possess the ability to work well within a team environment providing support to the administration team, support staff, school community and teaching staff.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
- Ability to liaise with stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes for adolescents.
- Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Effective planning and organisational skills and experience in providing administrative support.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
