Hampton Park Primary School (PS) is looking for a Teacher – Specialist Learning Program for Autism Spectrum Disorder to deliver specialist learning programs to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to access mainstream education. The successful applicant will adopt evidence-based practice and pedagogy to meet the needs of students with ASD without a diagnosed intellectual disability. Knowledge of, and ability to, apply Western Australian curriculum is essential. You will be part of the primary school staff and may, over time, move between the specific role within the Specialist Learning Program for Students with ASD and mainstream class roles.

In collaboration with the Program Coordinator (Autism), teachers will provide innovative and engaging classes for our students and contribute to their sense of belonging and overall wellbeing in mainstream public primary schools. Teachers of this program will develop highly personalised learning plans to facilitate access to age-appropriate curriculum. They will apply evidence-based individualised education interventions to improve academic engagement, organisational skills, social thinking, peer relationships and self-regulation skills.

Hampton Park PS is located approximately 14kms northeast of Perth in the suburb of Morley and was established in the 1950s. With a current K-6 enrolment of approximately 390 students, the school offers a rich and diverse curriculum; including academic, sporting and numerous activities that utilise its multicultural community. Hampton Park PS has proven to be a proactive and forward-thinking school. The attractive and expansive grounds of the school provide an excellent venue for sport, socialisation and play.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements in relation to teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder without a diagnosed intellectual disability:

  • Apply evidence-based pedagogy for improving student outcomes relevant to the WA curriculum
  • Knowledge and/or a commitment to participate in relevant training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), positive behaviour support and a range of evidenced-based teaching practices to improve student outcomes
  • Monitor, review and report on the performance of students by creating individualised learning plans, maintaining relevant, rigorous and valid programming, data collection and reporting systems
  • Efficiently deploy resources and manage a team of education assistants to ensure program fidelity
  • Demonstrate high level interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, parents, students and the school community

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
