The Senior Cleaner in Charge will be responsible for opening and locking the school, including setting the security alarm system.  As a team leader, you will induct, train, lead, and manage a large team of approximately 25 cleaning staff, including allocating relief staff. Collaboration with the Facilities Officer on all cleaning matters, including daily handover, is essential, and you will respond to issues and concerns to ensure a clean and safe school environment.

You will undertake and supervise a variety of internal cleaning duties, such as maintaining carpets and hard floor surfaces, cleaning toilets, furniture, fittings, and windows, as well as dusting, rubbish removal, and other general cleaning tasks, including cleaning verandas, covered areas, drinking troughs, and windows, removing cobwebs, and performing other necessary cleaning activities.

During school vacations, you will organise and complete vacation cleaning duties, which include stripping and sealing vinyl floors, window cleaning, carpet shampooing, and pressure cleaning verandas and undercover areas. You will monitor and order stock supplies within budget and maintain and perform stocktake of cleaning equipment. A knowledge of the safe storage of cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals and ability to recognise and interpret Material Safety Data sheets, equipment operating instructions, safety instructions and training guidelines.

The successful applicant should be able to work well both individually and as part of a team and have excellent knowledge of cleaning equipment and safe cleaning procedures, methods and practices.  You should be organised, reliable and punctual, with an excellent ability to communicate effectively and work well with a diverse team. You should have extensive experience in both internal and external cleaning duties within school or commercial environments and a thorough understanding of cleaning equipment and safe cleaning procedures, methods, and practices. Attention to detail and strong organisational skills are crucial to maintaining our high standards of cleanliness.

Willetton SHS is one of the largest schools in Western Australia, drawing its student enrolment from diverse geographic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. With a student population in excess of 2700 and approximately 230 teaching staff and 145 support staff on campus the school is inclusive and comprehensive providing courses for Years 7 to 12. Employees will be required to:

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
