This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024. 

The School of Special Educational Needs: Disability (SSEND) is seeking to appoint a Technical Support Officer to assist with the implementation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) across SSEND.

Our School

SSEND is one of seven Specialist Schools within Statewide Services. At SSEND we partner with schools and communities to deliver an effective, responsive and integrated service that supports students with additional needs to achieve their potential. Support is provided statewide through a Request for Assistance model that matches the needs of schools to the skill set of Consulting Teachers. SSEND have staff located across the state.

SSEND is a school that strives for excellence and is committed to building the capacity of teachers and school-based staff within a culture of support to ensure every student with disability is a successful student. We provide consultancy services to educators, contextualised and evidence based professional learning, online research, information, resources and practical support in our service delivery model.

The Role

The successful applicant will ideally have recent experience in a school setting, with a sound understanding of Standard Operating Environment 4 (SOE4) and experience working with the School Self Service (SSS) and Dashboard. In this role, applicants will maintain a large stock of computers, laptops and other related information technology equipment for SSEND staff. Experience in an educational context and with Office 365 (or similar platforms) would be highly regarded.

The Technical Support Officer should maintain networked information technology resources effectively and efficiently, to maximise outcomes within the Department of Education’s asset management and security regulatory framework.

The successful applicant should troubleshoot and provide support to SSEND staff members across the state including desktop and software application and access to systems and resources. The successful applicant should provide input on system enhancements and implement new systems through research and identification of appropriate information technology resources.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Experience in the support of ICT, including supporting PCs, printers, telephones, mobile devices, tablets and their associated hardware and software.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work as part of a team in the delivery of ICT projects and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Well developed conceptual and analytical skills within the information technology field, including the ability to develop innovative solutions to information technology problems.
  • Experience with an ICT support incident management, documentation and call logging system.
  • Initiative and organisational skills, including the ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
