Are you a motivated, enthusiastic individual who works well in a team and is an exceptional communicator? Then the Non-Government School Regulation Directorate needs you!

We are a small team engaging directly with the Catholic and Independent non-government school sector. Our regulatory responsibilities include assessment of applications for entirely new schools, renewal of registration of existing schools and the establishment of new campuses. In undertaking our role we have a strong focus on child safety and the standard of education in schools. 

The team also assesses applications for compulsory-aged students seeking exemptions from attending school and responds to the ongoing obligations of non-government schools including monitoring school responses to reportable incidents, complaints, and in relation to governance.

Executive support is also provided to the Minister for Education’s Non-Government School Planning Advisory Panel, which provides advice to the Minister on applications seeking to establish new non-government schools or making significant changes to existing schools.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a tertiary qualification in education and/or extensive relevant experience in education leadership or regulation roles
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
