Armadale Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated individual to fill the position of Youth Engagement and Support Worker.

The Youth Engagement and Support Worker is responsible for improving the wellbeing, resilience and pro-social behaviours of students across the Armadale Senior High School site. Working in collaboration with the Student Services team, as well as the schools newly-formed Wellbeing Centre, the successful applicant will be responsible for developing and implementing positive support strategies that foster student engagement - inside and outside the classroom. 

A key aspect of this role is developing and maintaining strong relationships with students – increasing regular attendance and promoting positive mental/physical health to enhance student learning outcomes. The successful applicant should have the skills and experience necessary to implement appropriate engagement and intervention strategies for students requiring support.  The role will also involve appropriate data entry, report writing, participation in case conferences as well as management of student case notes.   • considerable experience working with individuals or small groups of students who are or may be at risk and implementing strategies to improve educational outcomes.
  • interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • negotiation, mediation and conflict resolutions skills with relevant experience working with students who require support.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team without direct supervision.
  • effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
