This is a permanent part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2024

Greenwood College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Japanese Languages Teacher to join their team.

The successful applicant should have high expectations, display a commitment to excellence, use a range of pedagogies and establish and maintain a positive classroom learning environment. They should have an excellent understanding of the Years 7 to 10 Japanese: Second Language WA Curriculum, as well as Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Japanese courses is also desirable. All Languages teachers have a role in leading curriculum planning in the learning area, as well as promoting language learning across our school community.

Greenwood College has strong ties to Hyogo Prefectural International High School in Japan with a sister school arrangement that has seen Greenwood College students visit during 2023 with a reciprocal visit from Hyogo Prefectural International High School in 2024 with the intention of continuing this arrangement in the coming years. The successful applicant would be required to facilitate and lead this partnership including organising and directing international tours.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a willingness to liaise with colleagues, parents and external networks to establish strong community partnerships, are also desired. As the successful applicant, you should be relationship focused with a consistent and transparent classroom management approach. You should be enthusiastic, seek opportunities for innovation and leadership, and desirably have the proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
