Student Engagement and Wellbeing is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and organised Principal Consultant to lead key priorities in the student health portfolio.

As Principal Consultant, you will coordinate system strategies and priorities to support schools to improve the health and wellbeing of students including developing policies and guidance to strengthen the capability of school staff.

A core component of this role is to build the support and engagement of various internal and external stakeholders, to negotiate and facilitate cooperation to achieve the effective delivery of programs and services. This will require you to harness and build productive connections in consultation with schools and the profession and to work within and across teams and business units to integrate service, support and advice to schools and the system.

To be successful you will be a culturally responsive practitioner and possess well-developed understanding of State, Commonwealth and department directions in student health and wellbeing, alongside a deep connection and commitment to schools and the people in them. Your expertise will inform and contribute to system responses to State and Commonwealth initiatives related to student health and wellbeing and facilitate the alignment of policy, resources, and services in mental health and wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, social and emotional learning, health and child safeguarding.

  4. Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships and networks, including experience in undertaking high-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations.
  5. Demonstrated highly developed written communication skills, including extensive experience in the preparation of correspondence, reports, Ministerials, briefing notes and policy.
  6. Demonstrated highly developed organisational skills with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on schedule in a demanding environment and under tight timeframes.

Employees will be required to:

  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete
    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
