Newton Moore Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a dynamic Student Support Coordinator with strong interpersonal and communication skills to take a leadership role to develop, manage and build capacity of the Learning Support team, as well as supporting teaching staff to implement evidence-based practice in supporting students with special education needs.
About the role
We are seeking applicants that will be highly motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, flexible, and experienced implementing systems, intervention strategies and provide high level of case management of students with special educational needs. Ideally, the successful applicant will establish and maintain professional relationships between students, family, staff and relevant community stakeholders.
The successful applicant will ideally possess strong organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to deliver outcomes, while working within deadlines, in a challenging and fast paced environment.
Applicants will ideally have a high level of:
- Understanding of case management processes and coordination of education plans, actively participating in team meetings within the school and multi-disciplinary stakeholders as required.
- Ability to support individuals and small group interventions with evidence-based approaches to supporting student wellbeing.
- Understanding of Trauma Informed Practice and the ability to take a trauma informed and restorative approach to building effective relationships within a school environment.
- Facilitate professional learning for staff and community to improve student outcomes in special education needs such as Teamteach, functional curriculum, protective behaviours and Zones of regulation.
- Establish and manage administrative and operational systems in the relevant area of responsibility to ensure the effective operation of the school within departmental policy and guidelines.

Newton Moore SHS has a strong focus on building staff capacity through Classroom Management Support (CMS) and Instructional Strategies in Education (ISE). We have multiple Conference Accredited Trained (CAT) teachers who support teachers to engaging in high level reflection.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
- well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- well-developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
- skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
- knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
