This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024

Helena Valley Primary School (PS) is seeking a dynamic and innovative Deputy Principal who will work collaboratively with the school’s distributed leadership team, staff and the community to ensure positive progress and outcomes for all students. You should contribute to the leadership of our school culture that promotes learning and have a deep belief that every student is capable of success.

You should have the capacity and resilience to develop others and have the ability to work collaboratively to ensure quality procedures for school improvement are upkept. The successful applicant will analyse and review all forms of data with staff and interrogate lines of inquiry to inform an evidence-based approach to case management, quality teaching and targeted intervention. 

You will ideally have highly developed knowledge of current research and evidence-based practice to lead staff in the contemporary teaching of English, Mathematics, Project Based Learning and 21st Century skills. We aim to provide every student with a positive learning experience through our innovative practices and commitment to knowing every child.

The strategic direction of the school requires you to be able to work alongside the Principal to drive school-wide practices and build capacity in staff around restorative and trauma informed practice, Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and instruction. The Deputy is also part of the schools Positive Behaviour School team.

Our school has an engaged and invested community, and as such, the successful applicant should have exceptional interpersonal, organisational, communication and public relation skills; building and maintaining collaborative and respectful partnerships across the school and wider community to share ownership of the school vision.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
