Dowerin District High School (DHS) is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic teacher of Secondary Mathematics to engage our Year 7-10 students in all aspects of the Mathematics learning area.
There are several initiatives in place to support the successful applicant including mentoring, access to a Mathematics HOLA (Head of Learning Area), and moderation opportunities.
The successful applicant will be a conscientious and dedicated teacher who strives to create positive, respectful, and productive relationships with students, parents and staff. They should utilise their comprehensive knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum to teach students operating at multiple levels of competence; differentiating the curriculum to extend the learning of all students, providing timely and constructive feedback, and creating an engaging and rigorous learning environment. Ideally, this person will be able to employ an evidence-based approach to inform planning.
To be successful in this position, the person should be highly organised, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Additionally, they should have the ability to effectively employ technology and work constructively as part of a team. They would also be resourceful and pursue excellence in their practice through self-reflection, engagement with professional learning and school-based performance improvement strategies. A willingness to engage in the delivery of teaching and learning in a second curriculum area would be desirable. Both experienced teachers and graduates are encouraged to apply.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
