Are you a passionate K-6 teacher motivated to work as part of a team committed to promoting excellence in teaching and learning? Do you have an interest in or specific expertise in working with students with EAL/D background and/or from different nationalities?
Parkwood Primary School (PS) are seeking to establish a pool enthusiastic, and passionate Kindergarten to Year 6 teachers with growth mindsets for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies in our Intensive English Centre (IEC) which may arise up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time up to the end of Term 2, 2024.
Parkwood PS is committed to a culture of high expectations where every staff member, regardless of position, is focused on learning success for every student, working as part of a motivated team and presenting a high level of professionalism.
The desired applicants should be highly collaborative educators who impact student outcomes and can create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that focuses on every student achieving high standards. Suitable applicants should exhibit strong knowledge of pedagogy and classroom management strategies and be able to demonstrate through experience or interest a command of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) strategies to support second language learners. Suitable applicants will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with parents and carers from various cultural backgrounds.
In addition to the teaching component of this role, we are looking for teachers who see the value of connecting with other staff and the leadership team to promote a school culture focused on continuous reflection, feedback, and improvement. They should have a positive outlook, value others and actively foster an inclusive team environment across the school. A proven commitment to leadership roles, showing initiative, and being an engaged member of school teams is highly desirable.
Parkwood PS opened in 1975 and is at the eastern end of the Fremantle-Peel Education District. The school sits adjacent to Lynwood Senior High School. Our students enjoy quality facilities, equipment, and resources to enhance their learning experiences.
Formerly one of the largest primary schools in Western Australia, demographic changes have resulted in a student enrolment of approximately 590 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, including just over 50 students in the Intensive English Centre.
The Intensive English Centre (IEC) addresses the needs of refugees and other children with little or no English. The IEC provides these children with a nurturing environment to develop written and spoken English proficiency. Some arrive with no prior education. After 12 to 18 months, when these children have developed sufficient skills to participate effectively in mainstream schooling, they enrol in their local school. As Parkwood PS is one of only seven primary schools in Western Australia with an IEC, our students are drawn from a broad section of the southeast metropolitan area.
