Secondary schools, District High Schools & Post-Secondary Pathways is seeking to appoint a Head of Department – Regional Learning Specialist (RLS), with the ability to teach any two of the following HASS ATAR courses; Year 11 & 12 Economics, Geography, History and Politics & Law.
The successful applicant will, in collaboration with the Manager Secondary, provide educational leadership by managing, developing, promoting and reporting on the Regional Learning Specialist (RLS) program, and provide leadership to specialist subject teachers who teach Year 11 and 12 ATAR courses in the Mathematics, English, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences learning areas and provide up-to-date information on relevant specialist curriculum issues. The successful applicant will facilitate teaching and learning outcomes of the RLS team through effective performance management, and modelling and promoting a culture of improvement.
The Regional Learning Specialist Team supports Year 11 and 12 School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) students in regional and rural schools who are studying ATAR courses in the Mathematics, English, Science or Humanities and Social Science (HASS) learning areas. These expert classroom practitioners provide face-to-face support (through visits to regional schools) and online tuition and resources to senior secondary students to complement their SIDE studies. The RLS also provides professional guidance, expert advice and additional resources related to these courses to teachers in regional and rural schools to enhance the learning programs of their students.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our division for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised teaching qualification and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement,
- training specific to this role required by Department policy,
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment, and
- the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
