Churchlands Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Mathematics Teacher to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant should be committed to achieving the best outcomes for all students and be passionate about the delivery of innovative and engaging curriculum. They should have high expectations, a commitment to excellence, use a range of pedagogies, and have the ability to establish and maintain a positive classroom learning environment. They should be a flexible and adaptive teacher, able to apply the strategies of differentiated instruction. The successful applicant should cater to a range of student ability levels including those requiring numeracy support, as well as the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) levels.
As part of your standard practice, you should reflect on and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practices using a variety of methods available within the school. You will ideally provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve to their highest potential. Creating and promoting an environment conducive to active and positive learning and which caters for different student learning needs will also be a strength of the successful applicant. In addition, the ability to engage students using a range of skills, knowledge of effective classroom management strategies and restorative practices are highly desirable. You will ideally use explicit success criteria and provide students with an innovative and engaging environment, and regularly involve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in your practice.
The school’s learning technology is based upon every student having a laptop in class which is solely PC based. Every Mathematics classroom has an electronic interactive TV screen to facilitate classroom strategies as these virtual classroom technologies gradually replace traditional pen and paper. In management terms the school is isolated from the Department’s network and uses many alternative management tools not found in other Government schools.
Churchlands has developed its own Quality Teaching and Learning Framework (QTLF) based on Madeline Hunters Design model which provides a consistent whole school approach to teaching and learning. Professional learning at Churchlands is a key to the implementation of our QTLF. This is teacher driven and offers leadership development opportunities for all staff complimenting the school’s Leadership artefact.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
