Glen Huon Primary School (PS) is seeking an innovative and committed Deputy Principal who is motivated by school improvement. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in leading our school community towards achieving our strategic direction and improvement targets.
In collaboration with the Principal, the Deputy Principal is a strong, educational leader with the capacity to implement and embed consistent whole school approaches across teaching and learning. As our newest member of the team, you will ideally possess:
- Strong instructional leadership skills;
- Innovative and systems based thinking;
- A strategic mindset and capacity to lead change.
The successful applicant will lead curriculum innovation across Kindergarten to Year 6 and will ideally possess a strong ability to distribute curriculum leadership amongst teams of staff. You will lead curriculum improvement through innovative and contemporary understandings of The Science of learning, and a strong focus on data driven practice. The successful applicant will support teachers embed a shared and consistent pedagogy aligned to High Impact Teaching Strategies and explicit instruction. Ideally, we are seeking an instructional school leader with the abilities to:
- Lead fine-grained curriculum development and build teacher capacity. Your understanding and application of educational research will contribute to shaping our school’s academic direction and a focus on continuous improvement;
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support and behaviour management strategies to provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment for our students.
Alongside curriculum leadership, the Deputy Principal will complement the student services Deputy Principal in leading learning intervention and behaviour support. It is desirable that applicants possess experience with Positive Behaviour Support, multi-tiered systems of support, and complex case management.
Glen Huon PS is an Independent Public School located 170 km south of Perth in the suburb of Eaton. We are a level 5 Kindergarten to Year 6 primary school with just over 500 students. Our school has strong whole school approaches, with literacy, numeracy and PBS all priority areas. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
