Safety Bay Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a collaborative and flexible Program Coordinator of Learning Support to join their leadership team.
The successful applicants will ideally be highly proficient in engaging and motivating staff and students, whilst supporting the School’s priorities and business plan. Ideally, the successful applicant will possess qualifications and/or experience in Literacy Support, Student Services and Transition Processes and will strive to learn more about quality teaching.
The successful applicant will provide advice, information and support to the schools and networks on the learning support needs for Literacy & Numeracy, disability resourcing and additional support needs available from the State-wide Services Resource Centre, School of Special Educational Needs (SSEN) teams and Literacy/Numeracy Consultants. They will also work with families as an advocate to support them with diagnosis and assistance strategies.
The successful applicant will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will manage the allied professionals within the school to support student learning and engagement. You will work under general supervision or autonomously and are required to contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with school community members to support student achievement.
A commitment to enhancing students’ learning opportunities through ongoing reflective classroom practice is essential as is a commitment to plan and engage in professional learning opportunities which includes collaboration with colleagues. You should show a willingness to contribute and maintain a team environment.
The Learning Support Coordinator will undertake research and systemic analysis of student school data and system processes to identify areas for improvement and to inform the targeting of services and support. A key role will include strategic and operational planning for Safety Bay SHS.
The successful applicant will be required to work with intake primary schools and professional networks, provide briefings and develop documentation for presentation to Leadership, so students can be resourced effectively.
The successful applicant will ideally possess the knowledge and understanding of contemporary, evidence-based practices related to learning support services with the skills and knowledge in developing and implementing successful learning support programs or strategies at school, region, network level.
You should also have highly developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues along with highly developed leadership and management skills in motivating and developing staff.
Applicants with highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with students, parents, school leaders and other stakeholders are highly desirable.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
