Eastern Hills Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a suitably qualified person for the position of Head of Learning Area (HOLA) of The Arts.
The successful applicant would lead an Arts team comprised of Music, Visual Art, Digital Arts, Performing Arts and Media. Music is a recognised Specialist program run in conjunction with Instrumental Music School Services. It is envisaged the Arts program will be unified and complementary between all areas. The school seeks to support all schools who are partners in the Hills Education Community. The HOLA of the Arts would be specifically responsible for this liaison in all Arts related matters including coordinated performances and exhibitions. In addition the HOLA of Arts would have responsibility to promote the Eastern Hills Arts program both within the school and the wider community through performances, exhibitions and partnerships with local Arts organisations.
The HOLA would be responsible for coordinating the organisation of all areas of the Arts ensuring programs that enable the students to achieve appropriate standards within a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
The HOLA is responsible for supporting the School Business Plan through the development and implementation of an annual Operation Plan which sets out the Learning Area’s objectives, priorities, achievement targets, and the major strategies that will be used to optimise the Learning Area’s performance. The HOLA contributes to the Annual School Report by reporting on the performance of the Learning Area including achievement of the expectations documented in the Operational Plan.
The successful candidate should be able to display a proven record of developing school leadership which indicates effective instructional leadership, change management, encourages appropriate staff engagement in decision-making, encourages and supports innovation in educational practice and staff development with appropriate professional development and performance management.
The HOLA role has significant responsibility for ensuring resources and finances are deployed equitably to the resources allocated to the Learning Area to maximise the educational performance of the Learning Area. Management practices of all resources and finances must be compliant with all school and legislative requirements.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
