Willetton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a strategic, inspiring, and innovative leader to work with the Principal, the Executive and Senior leadership teams as they shape the educational future of our students, ensuring the highest standards of educational excellence. As Associate Principal, you will play a pivotal role in our school's continued success, collaborating with our dedicated leadership team, to formulate and execute strategies that enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, and personal growth. Overseeing the development and implementation of curriculum initiatives that cater to diverse learning needs, while staying current with educational trends, you will play a key role in staff professional development and contributing to the overall management and administration of the school.
As an educator of excellence, you should exhibit initiative and problem solving capacity to develop solutions which will cater for the wide variety of demands in our large, complex secondary school. A high level of understanding of the latest Department strategic directions and initiatives and their successful implementation at the school level is a highly desirable attribute for this role in leading and mentoring teaching staff to deliver innovative and effective teaching practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You should ideally have excellent communication and public relation skills, building and maintaining collaborative and respectful partnerships across the school and wider community to share ownership of the school vision.
Forward thinking and strategic planning skills will enable you to forecast the school’s needs and priorities, to effectively develop and implement successful strategies that maintain our reputation as one of Western Australia’s leading schools. The Associate Principal should anticipate change and put strategies in place to ensure the school is equipped to meet student learning outcomes and performance expectations for years to come. Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate outstanding instructional leadership, and also the requisite high level of understanding of school operations and system processes to support successful academic and wellbeing outcomes. Highly effective information and communication technologies skills are an asset that you will bring to the position.
You will be a prominent representative of the Principal at student and community events aligned to your identified portfolio. As a member of the school’s executive team, you will establish and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with the school community, ensuring all students’ needs are met. Through building a culture of trust and collaboration, you will encourage feedback from staff and students to contribute to school decision making. You will communicate effectively and with diplomacy and modify your leadership behaviour to obtain the best outcomes from all, whilst modelling and promoting the school’s vision and core values: respect, care and excellence, focused on the continual development of a teaching and learning culture dedicated to the success of every child.
Taking into consideration the school’s planning structures, financial and budget considerations and legislative requirements, it would be highly desirable if your professional knowledge and experience included: whole school curriculum planning and innovation including the provision for SAER, Education Support, STEM and Gifted and Talented; IPS business planning and review; human resource management and timetabling; workforce planning; professional learning leadership and school resourcing through Student Centred Funding whole school budgeting processes.

The school caters for around 2700 students from Year 7 to Year 12 in a wide range of courses and subjects in state-of-the-art teaching facilities and buildings. Participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, solar car vehicle challenge, theatrical and music productions and philosophy is encouraged. A domed telescope which can be remotely controlled from home by students enhances the STEM program. Willetton is the only public school in WA to have this facility.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
