Appointment Pool
Piara Waters Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Visual Arts Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
We are looking for applicants who will ideally encourage students to think critically, express their emotions and embrace their individuality. They should foster a supportive and inclusive environment where students can freely express themselves and develop their artistic talents. Teachers who model excellence in teaching, evidence based planning and effective instructional practice to support the learning needs of all students will be highly valued. Teachers will ideally set high standards whilst delivering a rigorous curriculum which is both challenging and rewarding. They should be motivated to work in a team environment and support the development of a positive culture. As a foundation school, the flexibility and ability to teach in other areas would be highly desirable.
The visual arts teacher should understand that everyone learns differently and will provide personalised guidance to help students reach their full potential. As such, suitable applicants should possess effective interpersonal skills, to work closely with students, colleagues, and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students. They should support the Arts learning area to strategically meet the learning needs of all students studying the Arts curriculum, including students with disabilities and special needs.
Piara Waters SHS is situated in the beautifully landscaped suburb of Piara Waters, approximately 25kms south of Perth. The school is surrounded by luscious greenery and will form part of the vibrant, multicultural community of Piara Waters. Piara Waters SHS commenced with Year 7 students in 2023, and will add each year to its growing cohort, until it reaches Year 12 in 2028.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
