Appointment Pool

Girrawheen Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of English Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

Suitable applicants should possess a sound understanding of the English Curriculum and Senior School English courses. Applicants will ideally have the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding to prepare students for National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and online literacy and numeracy assessment (OLNA). Candidates who have capacity to teach Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) will be highly regarded. We are seeking applicants who have proven abilities in learning program planning and instructional practice to facilitate improved student outcomes.

Suitable applicants should be able to provide engaging, relevant, and meaningful learning experiences. The learning environment you create should be differentiated, challenging, caring and creative, while catering for a range of needs that sees all students progressing and achieving. You should be able to utilise evidence-based teaching practices whilst employing a range of assessment and reporting methods.

You will ideally support the implementation of the school business plan, work and teach in a team environment, and be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives. The successful applicant should be able to build and maintain a positive learning environment therefore effective classroom management is highly regarded in this role.

As the suitable applicant, you should actively participate in professional learning opportunities and continually reflect on your classroom practice to sustain a culture of high-quality teaching and ongoing improvement. You will ideally be able to articulate a clear vision that complements and supports the school’s excellent culture in teaching and learning.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

• provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
• obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
• obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
• meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

• complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
• complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
• complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
