Willetton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Deputy Principal – Operations to join their collaborative leadership team.
In collaboration with the Principal and the executive team, the Deputy Principal should provide high level strategic leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school’s vision, business plan and strategic directions across the school community. A significant responsibility of the Deputy Principal is to embed and maintain aspects of the school culture that promote positive relationships between students and staff while engaging parents, caregivers and the wider community in the educational work of the school.
As an integral member of the executive leadership team, you will ideally lead and develop innovative solutions; establish and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with stakeholders and build a culture of professional excellence with school leaders, teachers and allied staff so that our students are future-ready and able to contribute effectively to the wider community.
The Deputy Principal - Operations will be a prominent leader within the school, overseeing the significant and diverse area of school operations. You should exhibit an effective understanding of physical and human resource deployment which make optimal use of our outstanding specialist facilities and staff expertise, ensuring that the school is equipped to meet the high expectations in student learning and performance outcomes. The Deputy Principal - Operations will also be responsible for the oversight of all school operations, including whole school timetable development and effective resource deployment, and standardised assessments and school based assessments including Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT), Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) and National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), Externally Set Tasks (ESTs) and school based examinations.
They will align timetable and operations planning and processes with the strategic directions of the school, utilising strong interpersonal skills to deliver the best structures that support high levels of student achievement. The role will lead the operations team in managing school academic reporting (RTP, SEN Reporting), School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) compliance, including Syllabus Audit, Student Information Records System (SIRS) uploads, small group moderation and student academic performance tracking for Years 10 to 12. They will have a lead role in the planning for and the implementation of Program Kaartdijin with the school community.
As part of the role, the successful applicant will be responsible for curriculum pathway development, course counselling, including parent evenings, course selection material and course information handbooks. It is therefore highly desirable that the successful applicant has a high level of understanding of Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) directions, school operations, policy, system databases, curriculum leadership and is able to display innovative and strategic deployment of resources and solutions in a complex secondary school environment.
The successful applicant should have a high level of understanding of school and departmental operations, reporting systems, HRMIS, system data bases and be able to display effective communication to ensure deadlines are met. To be successful in this role, you should be a highly organised individual who can coordinate and contribute to whole school activities such as School Development Days and after-hours staff meetings. The successful applicant should display the capacity to operate effectively within a focussed and distributive leadership team environment and have the flexibility to take on areas under any of the Deputy Principals portfolios.
Willetton SHS is one of the largest schools in Western Australia, drawing its student enrolment from diverse geographic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. With a student population in excess of 2600 and approximately 220 teaching staff and 120 support staff on campus the school is inclusive and comprehensive providing courses for Years 7 to 12. It is the school of choice for many local and international families.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
