Appointment Pool
Somerly Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of K-6 Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
Somerly PS is seeking enthusiastic teaching professionals, ideally with knowledge, skills, and experience teaching across a broad range of year levels Kindergarten – Year Six. Applicants with high quality teaching skills who are prepared to work collaboratively in high functioning collegial teams will be highly regarded. Suitable applicants will ideally display a strong commitment to collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement, to facilitate a best practice approach towards teaching and learning.
We are seeking teachers who ideally pursue excellence in teaching, have high expectations, and who believe that all children can learn and be successful. Educators should have proficient level of understanding and delivery of explicit teaching techniques in a professional environment where whole school pedagogies, practices and programs are used to maximise impact on student learning. Experience with and an understanding of High Impact Teaching Strategies, along with knowledge of Science of Reading, explicit synthetics phonics and The Writing Revolution will be highly regarded.
Ideally, applicants should exhibit a proactive and positive approach to student engagement and behaviour, including the consistent application of classroom management strategies, aligned to Positive Behaviour Support. Suitable applicants will ideally be able to show the capacity to build strong, positive, and productive relationships with students, peers, and the wider school community. As well as a commitment to supporting students’ mental health and wellbeing through both the delivery of social-emotional learning programs in class and through school wide positive interactions.

Vacancies may arise during the life of this pool that require specialist qualifications (for example vacancies within Early Childhood Education). Only applicants, in the pool, possessing the required qualifications will be considered for appointment in these circumstances.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
