Appointment Pool
Rockingham Senior High School Education Support Centre (SHS ESC) is seeking to establish a pool of Education Support Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 3, 2024.
Rockingham SHS ESC is an Independent Public School for students in years 7 to 12 with special educational needs and is co-located with Rockingham Senior High School. Our staff work in partnership with students, parents and other stakeholders to provide targeted and relevant programs focusing on functional literacy and numeracy, communication, social skills, protective behaviours and independent living skills, leading to employability skills including Workplace Learning (WPL) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.
Suitable applicants will ideally be experienced secondary education support teachers willing to teach at all year levels. It is highly desirable for applicants to have a strong background in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and knowledge of trauma informed practice, Special Education Needs Reporting To Parents (SENRTP) and Abilities Based Learning Education (ABLEWA) reporting, Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH) practice, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Experience teaching physical education or STEM (Science, Technology, English and Mathematics) would be advantageous.
Suitable applicants will be required to modify curriculum and make adjustments to meet the student’s individual needs which includes students diagnosed with Autism or complex behaviour and medical needs.
Applicants with special needs qualifications or a willingness to undertake further postgraduate study in special needs education and who are ready to take on new challenges will be highly regarded.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
