Fitzroy Valley District High School (DHS) is seeking Secondary Generalist teachers to join our friendly and supportive team. About the role
The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to provide purposeful, engaging and relevant learning experiences that cater for the diverse learning needs of all our students. You should possess the ability to create positive and respectful relationships with students, staff and families. Outstanding curriculum knowledge, employing research-based high impact teaching strategies is desirable.
You should be well organised and have good interpersonal skills. A high level of effective classroom management and an understanding of the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Framework will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant will ideally have an understanding of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. They will and be able to express their respect for and value Aboriginal culture and their connection to Country, the histories, and experiences of Aboriginal people, and see your students’ culture as a strength. You should be committed to ongoing self-reflection, expanding your knowledge, and improving practices through working collaboratively with your colleagues and the community. We are looking for applicants whose approach will be flexible and adaptive, as you understand the nuances and implications for your teaching, as you get to know your students, their families, and communities.
We will also consider an internal secondment opportunity for permanent teachers in other locations within the Department of Education who would like to work at our school for up to three years and retain their substantive position. Fitzroy Valley DHS enrols students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with students coming from many communities in and around Fitzroy Crossing. Our school has predominantly Aboriginal students enrolled and has a strong focus on developing literacy and numeracy skills. Trauma-informed practices are embedded into our school, and we work in partnership with other agencies to raise awareness and understanding around best practice for supporting students and families.
The location and community
The town of Fitzroy Crossing is situated on the northern bank of the Fitzroy River, approximately 2700 km from Perth and 400 km east of Broome. The town has a population of approximately 1500 people. The main cultural groups in the Fitzroy Valley are the Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri, Nyikina and Wangkatjungka peoples.

Remote Community School
Schools in the Remote Teaching Service are located in some of the most isolated parts of the state. They may be in community settings or small towns, and the majority of students are from local Aboriginal families. They deliver flexible and innovative education programs to ensure students in remote areas have access to high quality learning programs.
