Kalamunda Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an innovative and exceptional educator and leader to take on the role of Head of Learning Area - Technologies and join our dedicated senior leadership team.
The successful applicant should have strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with staff, students, parents and the wider community. They will ideally provide effective curriculum leadership across the Technologies Learning Area and contribute to the leadership of the school, which is an inclusive, innovative, high achieving and connected school.
The school offers a range of courses across the Technologies Learning Area that include Home Economics, Design and Technology, Information Technology and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Technologies offers a range of general and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses for Years 11 and 12. This is an expanding, well-resourced and highly valued learning area within the school community. Experience and a strong understanding of the Workplace Health and Safety requirements pertaining to the Technologies learning area is highly desirable, as well as experience in analysing data and in leading improvement in student academic achievement.
Kalamunda SHS has an enviable reputation developed over 63 years of providing a quality education to all students. The school is proud of its outstanding achievement in the Gifted and Talented Visual Arts program, which is complemented by excellence in academic achievement, languages (three), a specialist program in Outdoor Education and a newly established school based Performing Arts program.
The school offers a welcoming, positive, and supportive environment for all students. There is a strong student services team including Program Coordinators, Year Coordinators, Chaplain, Nurse, and School Psychologists.
Kalamunda SHS also has a Learning Centre to support literacy and numeracy development in the school and students with English as a Second Language. The successful applicant will work together with the Learning Centre Coordinator to provide appropriate support across the whole school.
Drawing on the hills and surrounding suburbs, the school has proud traditions and a strong sense of community stretching across three generations with many of the students’ parents and grandparents attending the school. Graduates have gone on to excel and take on leadership roles in their chosen fields - notably the arts, medicine, dentistry, engineering, Olympic representation, journalism, entertainment, and the public service.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
