Girrawheen Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an enthusiastic, and passionate Visual Arts teacher. The FTE for this position may be negotiated to full-time for the successful applicant.
The successful applicant should play a pivotal role in The Arts Learning Area - they should actively contribute to and support collaborative team efforts aimed at cultivating a culture of excellence within The Arts. The candidate will ideally have the ability to lead Visual Arts curriculum and have the initiative to promote Visual Arts excellence across the school and community. You will join an experienced and supportive team focused on student achievement and success. We are seeking a teacher with excellent interpersonal and professional skills to work both independently and cooperatively. The capacity to teach across Learning Areas will be highly regarded.
You should have the ability to plan and teach Western Australian Curriculum Visual Arts content across a range of ability levels from Year 7 to 12, including, Senior Secondary General Visual Arts Courses. You should be prepared to work with the wider school community and local community to provide opportunities to Art students to enrich their learning. The successful applicant would play a significant role in leading the development of extracurricular activities in Arts. Graduates are welcome to apply.
The successful candidate should be able to provide engaging, relevant, and meaningful learning experiences. The learning environment you create should be differentiated, challenging, caring and creative, while catering for a range of needs that sees all students progressing and achieving. You should be able to utilise evidence-based teaching practices whilst employing a range of assessment and reporting methods.
You will ideally support the implementation of the school business plan, work and teach in a team environment, and be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives. The successful applicant should be able to build and maintain a positive learning environment, therefore effective classroom management is highly regarded for this role.
As the successful applicant, you should actively participate in professional learning opportunities and continually reflect on your classroom practice to sustain a culture of high-quality teaching and ongoing improvement. You will ideally be able to articulate a clear vision that complements and supports the school’s excellent culture in teaching and learning.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
