Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent, and enthusiastic Design and Technology (D&T) teacher (with a focus on Woodwork, Metalwork and Engineering). The successful applicant will ideally be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated.

The successful applicant will ideally be a passionate teacher of D&T, with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Alkimos College opened in 2020 with Year 7 only and will grow one-year group at a time (Years 7-11 in 2024). Therefore, the successful applicant should use their professional knowledge, understanding and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant D&T curriculum, from the early and middle adolescent phases of learning, through to senior secondary courses. The ability to teach a range of courses in the D&T area is highly desirable, including expertise and/or interest in teaching Year 11 General Woodwork, Year 11 General Engineering and Certificate II Engineering Pathways. The successful applicant will ideally be an enthusiastic adopter of a college wide instructional framework based on explicit teaching and instructional skills, strategies, and tactics. They should be committed to personal and professional growth and embrace opportunities for collaboration. As we are a growing school flexibility to teach other areas will be highly desirable and may be required until we reach our full complement of Year 7-12.
Successful applicants will ideally demonstrate the ability to develop innovative classroom practices and utilise ICT to provide integrated, personalised, and authentic learning experiences for students. A key attribute is the ability to create environments conducive to learning and provide educational opportunities that are fun, purposeful, relevant and cater for differing student learning needs. Commitment to the college extra-curricular activities (after-school Academies) is highly desirable, as well as active promotion of the college motto, values and vision within the college and wider community.
About Us
Located in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort of 176 students, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities. Each year we will add an additional cohort, until we reach our full complement of Year 7 -12 in 2025.
Stage 1 buildings include administration, student services, library, gymnasium, fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, technologies workshops, IT labs, general classrooms, specialist science laboratories, nature play area and the Specialised Autism Program classroom and Homeroom. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2, (ready in 2024), will include a performing arts centre, lecture theatre, additional student services and general classrooms, as well as refurbished sections from Stage 1 to allow for Building and Construction, STEM and Hospitality.
The college places a high priority on professional learning, with a focus on a whole of college instructional framework as part of our ‘Alkimos Approach.’ A commitment to self-reflection and growth is vital. The college uses a coaching framework for all planning, review, performance development and classroom observation and feedback. Staff are expected to embrace technology and innovation and enhance their skills with technology to improve work practices. The college provides students with a range of devices available to suit the learning required. This includes Surface Go laptops, iPads, Macs, PCs.
Alkimos College has high expectations of the student cohort to ensure all students are well prepared for their future, and have the opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to achieve their potential. This is complemented by a strong focus on student engagement and mental health and wellbeing, through our bespoke Anchor Program. Alkimos College is only one of eight secondary schools chosen to have a Specialised Autism Learning Program. The college also has an academic extension pathway and in 2022 commenced the Gifted and Talented Academic Selective Entrance Program.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;

- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
