Teachers and school administrators employed at Merredin College in 2023 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $7,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the role
To be successful in this role you will ideally be committed to maximising our students’ potential and providing a relevant and engaging learning experience. The successful applicant will be a part of the Science Learning Area and be responsible for planning and developing the Science curriculum in conjunction with the Science team. It is desirable that the successful applicant has the ability to teach Year 7 – 10 Science and General Earth and Environmental Science. The successful applicant should have sound knowledge of the requirements of the Western Australian Curriculum and excellent Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE) knowledge.
We are looking for a teacher with strong teaching and classroom management skills, and who can develop good relationships with all students and engage them in highly effective learning. You will ideally be experienced with Visible Learning and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). In addition, you should be able to work in a team environment, engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents, and external networks.
Suitable applicants will ideally be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative, and motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. As part of a dedicated team, you will be required to develop, review, and deliver Science curriculum. You should engage in ongoing self-reflection and assess the effectiveness of your practice to create an environment conducive to learning and provide educational opportunities that are purposeful and relevant, catering for different student learning needs.

Located 256 kilometres east of Perth in the Central Wheatbelt, Merredin College is a lighthouse rural school providing a high-quality educational program for 520 students from K-12. We are unique because our students can remain in the safety of the community in which they were born and at the same school for their entire education. ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
