Manjimup Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking a positive, motivated Education Support – Teacher to join their friendly team.
This position is currently for a Lower High School classroom, although teachers may be required to teach in both the primary and secondary parts of the school
The successful applicant will provide a supported functional and academic learning environment for students with disabilities. You will work towards continuous improvement of school programs and workforce. Suitable applicants will ideally have experience managing Education Assistants (EAs) in a classroom setting with the ability to plan within the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) Curriculum Framework, including Ability Based Learning Education (ABLESWA). In this role you will individualise curriculum to meet Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and educational outcomes.
Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH) experience would be highly regarded, in addition to the ability to plan IEPs and individualised learning outcomes. A good understanding of diagnosed conditions such as: ID (Intellectual Disability), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and Mental Health and how they impact on student learning, is highly regarded. Knowledge of Education Support teaching practices, understanding of the principles of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), experience in using Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is highly desirable. Experience with Key Word sign is preferable.
The successful applicant should ideally be a strong team player and be able to manage a classroom of support staff (EAs) effectively and efficiently, contributing towards our desire to be a high performing environment. You will ideally have strong teamwork and communication skills and the ability to set and maintain classroom routines and expectations. Although the current vacancy is in a lower high-school Education Support setting, experience in both primary and secondary settings will be highly regarded.
You should be able to work effectively and efficiently with parents, carers, therapists, and a range of other Professionals along with having a good understanding of Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Standards and the ability to develop self.

The successful applicant will plan, program, and assess using an integrated curriculum, differentiated to meet individual student needs. Successful applicants will also ideally have highly effective teaching practices, an ability to self-reflect and a willingness to seek constant improvement in their own practice.
We are seeking individuals who are hardworking and knowledgeable about a range of disabilities and the implementation of strategies to support and enhance individual development in all areas, with a focus on numeracy, literacy, life skills and protective behaviours. Prior experience and knowledge in managing challenging behaviours for students with special needs is desirable. The successful applicant will engage with and contribute to the school community and work collaboratively with families, therapists, and outside agencies to improve student outcomes.

About the school
Manjimup ESC is an Independent Public School. Manjimup ESC is a Kindergarten to Year 12 education support centre located in Manjimup which caters for students with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing), and/or autistic spectrum disorders who have exceptionally high educational needs. Students may also have other associated conditions. Our school personalises learning for each student, working closely with families and support agencies to plan pathways for students, to Vocational and Independent Living. The school is co-located with Manjimup Primary School and Manjimup Senior High School. There are classroom spaces on both sites which are within a short walking distance.
Parents and families are the pivotal partners in meeting the educational needs of our students. We build positive relationships with parents in educational planning through a range of formal and informal processes. With over thirty years' experience in serving families in the Warren Blackwood, the school currently has 30 students, across four classes, with intensive staff support and class sizes averaging seven students. Students have individually targeted plans and intensive mentoring with small class groups. The school focuses on what students can do and are committed to seeing students prosper economically, being happy and secure in themselves and ready to contribute to their local community. Bus services from regional areas are accessible through the Public Transport Authority.
Manjimup ESC students develop key skills in employability, develop character and resilience through class and curriculum programmes, excursions and camps. Students participate in micro-enterprises that teach independence and teamwork, working alongside industry skilled mentors. The School delivers innovative programs and works closely with Support Agencies. Manjimup ESC is an ASDAN registered school. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
