Are you a highly skilled and passionate Woodwind Teacher?
Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) is seeking a Woodwind Teacher commencing Week 6 of Term 3, 2023. The successful applicant should possess high levels of teaching competence on flute, clarinet and saxophone. This position is in the upper northern metropolitan area.
We are looking for a candidate who adopts a flexible approach to their working day and who will embrace the opportunity to work within a variety of environments. The successful applicant will be required to teach woodwind instruments in small groups. Lessons are from primary through to senior secondary in a variety of schools within the northern metropolitan area. You may be expected to conduct ensembles in some of the schools in which you work and you should be responsible for negotiating your own timetable with the schools in your allocation.
IMSS employs dedicated instrumental teachers who are passionate in their chosen field. There is a particularly close collegial relationship amongst staff that allows for significant professional growth as a teacher and musician. The successful applicant will ideally possess the ability to make connections with colleagues and be proactive in providing enhanced learning opportunities for students.
To be successful in this role you should have current knowledge of the WA Curriculum – Music and be prepared to implement this in your teaching as required by IMSS. You will be required to develop knowledge of the IMSS Woodwind program, assessment tasks, and the current assessment guidelines mandated by IMSS. You should demonstrate a willingness to integrate and to collaborate with all year level classroom teachers.
Our services enhance student learning in music through the provision of instrumental music tuition in schools and school clusters, offering music as part of their curriculum provision in the Arts learning area. The primary function of the Teacher is to provide a quality music education to students through tuition that embraces the principles of the WA Curriculum.
We currently have more than 300 teaching staff who work in over 460 metropolitan and country primary and secondary schools, providing instrumental instruction to approximately 20,000 students from Years 3 to 12. In addition to weekly small group instrumental lessons, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment music activities which combine students working collaboratively across year levels and with students from other schools.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
