We are seeking a dedicated and ideally experienced Senior Secondary teacher – Special Needs to join our Malibu team.

Senior students at Malibu School participate in a range of classroom and community-based learning opportunities that enhance skill development and independence aligned to each child’s pathway preference. Formal recognition for learning is attained through enrolment in School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) Endorsed programs (such as Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) certificates and Authority Developed Workplace Learning), Senior Secondary Courses (such as Preliminary Units for English and Mathematics) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications and Units of Competencies, relevant to each child’s pathway preferences.
This role requires identifying, developing and implementing relevant and achievable pathway learning for students who are working towards successful transitions beyond school. The successful applicant should be a genuine innovator who displays creative planning and instructional flexibility, drawing on a knowledge of evidence-based teaching strategies to implement differentiated learning and assessment approaches that further students’ Personal, Social, Literacy and Numeracy development.
Teaching and learning content is hands-on and practical, supporting skill development in the areas of communication, personal care, independent living, community access, employability, protective behaviour, social emotional learning and transition skills. Competent use of a range of technologies and displayed experience in integrated planning, across a range of Senior Secondary programs, is highly regarded.
The successful applicant should possess effective interpersonal skills to develop a strong rapport with students, staff, families and therapists and will advocate as part of an effective team to promote success for all students. The successful applicant will be responsible for the planning and delivery of each students’ personalised education programs, both at school and during offsite activities, with a particular focus on supporting student access, engagement, independence and achievement of clearly defined outcomes documented in the student’s Individual Education Plan. In consultation with the school leadership team, teacher colleagues, Education Assistants, parents/caregivers and School Psychologist or relevant professionals, this will include contributing to the design, implementation and review of Individual Education, Behaviour, Acts of Daily Living, Transition, Travel and other documented plans. The successful applicant will also be involved in the ongoing review of student progress and maintaining records regarding student achievement.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
