Waroona District High School (DHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2024.
Waroona DHS is an Independent Public School (IPS) seeking highly motivated, innovative and accomplished instructional leaders with a deep knowledge of evidence based, high impact teaching practices to enhance quality teaching and deliver year on year progress for every student.
Suitable applicants will ideally have a proven record of successfully leading sustainable change and improvement in pedagogy. Suitable applicants should also possess the ability to lead an action research approach to teacher performance and development that fosters ongoing professional growth and ensures that pedagogy is impactful.
Experience implementing whole school explicit teaching practices in literacy and numeracy is highly desirable.
Suitable applicants should be future focussed thinkers who will lead the school improvement agenda in areas of strategic intent in order to achieve school vision. Applicants who are highly data literate and able to drive data review processes and continuous improvement planning will be highly regarded.
Strengths in student engagement, positive behaviour support processes and restorative practice are key aspects to this role, as is the ability to lead intervention and case management of challenging behaviour. Knowledge of trauma informed practice is highly desirable. Experience in the case management of disability resourced students and the disability resourcing system and Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) process is highly desirable.
Suitable applicants should be team oriented with outstanding interpersonal, communication and organisation skills.
Collective responsibility for the day to day management of the school Kindergarten to Year 10 (K-10), including behaviour management is an important aspect of this role.
This position is likely to include some classroom teaching dependent on school needs.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
