The Role and our Branch

The School Curriculum and Standards Division (SCS) is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant, Secondary, Curriculum and Assessment - International to be part of a challenging, rewarding and exciting international education opportunity.

The position requires an individual with specialised expertise in the teaching of Biology and Human Biology in Years 11 and 12 and the Science learning area in Years 7 to 10. An applied knowledge of the Years 11 and 12 Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Psychology course is desirable.

The position will provide support, including moderation related activities, to overseas schools approved by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) to deliver the Western Australian curriculum. The role will support the diverse needs of the Authority's international education program to ensure overseas schools effectively implement the Western Australian curriculum. The role will also ensure standards of Western Australian curriculum are maintained in overseas schools.

The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of, the Authority. The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all students studying the Western Australian curriculum to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.

The Authority has been licensing Western Australian curriculum to overseas schools for more than 36 years and is undertaking a phased expansion of its international education program in accordance with the State’s international education strategy.

Working within international education will provide the successful candidate with opportunities to be innovative in the design and implementation of support for overseas schools, and to work in a challenging but fulfilling environment. The branch also provides opportunities to work in international education to support State Government priorities for the sector.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
  • hold or obtain a valid passport and be eligible to travel to Authority endorsed interstate and overseas destinations
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete
    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
